Car Emission Pollution

The Future of Our Nation and Alternatives to Consider

Overview:
1. Internal Combustion Engines run on fossil fueling which burns undesired gases that cause pollution
  • The undesired gases produce harmful effects such as ozone gases and acid rain
  • The harmful effects on the environment produce health problems in humans.

Some Health Issues Caused by Pollution:

A. Bronchitis

B. Asthma

C. Lung-related : Emphysema, Loss of Lung Capacity.

Fossil Fuels and The Negative Effects:

When internal combustion engines burn fossil fuels, they produce undesired gases such as nitrogen oxides and particulate emissions. The unintended products are significant because they trigger in forming ozone gas and acid rain. Excessive inhalation of ozone gas and particulate emissions can also lead to a variety of medical problems, including asthma and bronchitis. Furthermore, the Ozone gas created is harmful to us because it is the leading product of smog. Smog can cause long term effects not only in visibility, but also in lung -related health issues. Burning fossil fuels also emit carbon dioxide in the air and this gas is the main "Greenhouse Gas" that scientists say causes Global Warming. Fortunately, Fossil Fueling will eventually come to a halt due to the constant demands of oil. Oil is a definite resource and sooner than later it will run out. Oil depletion will start and there will be a petroleum supply gap in which will call for other alternatives in fueling and transportation.

Greener Cars & Alternative Fueling:
Greener cars are automobiles that are essentially produced and considered to be more "environmentally friendly" because it reduces the use of petroleum consumption and takes into account renewable energy sources. These green vehicles are more cost efficient and reduce the amount of pollution that is exerted from a normal internal combustion automobile.
Hybrid Cars

Some Types of Greener Cars:

1. Hybrid: is a vehicle which combines a conventional propulsion system with an on-board rechargeable energy storage system. It's small gas engine serves only to keep the lithium-ion battery pack charged.

2. Partial Zero Emission Vehicles: powered by a gasoline engine but control exhaust gases with sophisticated engine controls and advanced catalytic converters.

3. Fuel Cells: doesn't burn anything but converts hydrogen to electricity and its tailpipe emission is water vapor.

Alternative fueling is a use of fuel that is not petroleum. These fuels can be used as a source of energy for households as well as transportation. Will eliminate the gases produced by burning fossil fuels. Hydrogen Fuel

Some Types of Alternative Fuels:

1. Diesel
2. Ethanol
3. Fuel Cell
4. Electricity

Other Alternatives To Reduce Car Pollution:
1. Walk
2. Ride your bicycle
3. Carpool
4. Buy a fuel efficient and smaller car bicycles
5. Buy a motorcycle

When regarding automobiles we're exposed to toxic fumes and nitric acids that the exhaust exerts into the air, by using other alternatives it decreases our exposure to car pollution. Nearly half of all trips in the United States are three miles or less; more than a quarter are less than a mile, so society should take into account that these trips can be easily bikable or walkable. Carpooling, buying smaller and more effcieint cars or motorcycles, still releases the undesired gases but less gas is consumed and burned by these alternatives and therefore lessens the amount of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxide, and particulates that filter our air.
